Queensland Voluntary Assisted Dying Review Board

The Queensland Voluntary Assisted Dying Review Board published their first report in September 2023.  The Board oversees the delivery of voluntary assisted dying across Queensland.

In the first 6 months -

  • 591 people had a first assessment for voluntary assisted dying
  • 245 people had died after receiving the medication

The Review Board made some important recommendations – including amendment to the Commonwealth law that prevents the use of telehealth for VAD consults, and a review of the Medical Benefits Schedule to allow doctors proper remuneration for their VAD consults.
