Voluntary Assisted Dying legalised in New South Wales

New South Wales has become the last Australian state to legalise Voluntary Assisted Dying after the NSW Upper House voted 23 - 15 in favour of legislation.

NSW MPs were given a conscience vote in what was a marathon debate that saw 100 amendments put forward by opponents of VAD. Most of these amendments were defeated.

An 18 month implementation process will see VAD be introduced once overseeing bodies and systems are put in place.
