PLEASE SUPPORT KATE CHANEY’S BILL

DWDQ Update March 2024

Our February update asked for your action on telehealth.

Federal law - the Commonwealth Criminal Code - makes it an offence to use a “carriage service” to counsel or discuss suicide. The VAD laws in many states stipulate that VAD is not suicide, but the Federal law prevails.

Health practitioners are unable to use telehealth for routine VAD consults. People living in regional areas are most affected. They face long, uncomfortable journeys to talk to their medical team about VAD.

Kate Chaney, Independent MP for Curtin, W.A., has tabled a private members’ Bill designed to overcome this simple policy problem.

Urge your MP to support Kate’s Bill.

Ask them to demand it be debated and voted on in Parliament.

Without support, the Bill will be deleted.

SEND AN EMAIL TO YOUR MP URGING THEM TO SUPPORT THE BILL BEFORE THE CUT-OFF DATE: 5 APRIL

Thanks for your patience and your support
