Every day too many Queenslanders along with their families and carers, experience the pain, the distress and the struggle of untreatable or terminal illness.

Each month on average, at least seven Queenslanders who are suffering from a terminal, or chronic or degenerative condition commits suicide.

The 2020 Queensland Parliamentary Report into Voluntary Assisted Dying recommends that Voluntary Assisted Dying be legalised and be accessible to Queenslanders, with specific safeguards in place for patients and medical practitioners.

We call on all MPs to commit to supporting Voluntary Assisted Dying for Queenslanders.

My husband is in palliative care with bone cancer with no chance of recovery. He is just being kept out of pain with massive drugs until his body gives up. We don’t even do this to our animals!

A terminally ill person has the right to make their own choices. Until you have to watch a loved one struggle at end of life, lose their dignity and their sense of self you will never understand the trauma the lead up to their death causes them and their loved ones who are forced to witness.

People should be able to choose a time, when their suffering has become too great, to be able to end their life in a safe, compassionate painless way.

When politicians experience themselves or a partner suffering not only the disease the mental anguish and the fear of what is about to happen to them and the mirroring of that in the loved ones eyes, then death in a compassionate loving way in the company of loved ones is the most humane way to move to our higher calling….
